Nécrologie de Leona Fraser

Leona Fraser (nee MacLennan)

September 18, 1951 - June 6, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leona Fraser (nee MacLennan) on June 6, 2025 in her 74th year. Devoted wife of the late David Fraser, proud and loving mother of Rodney and the late Janet Lynn and cherished Grandma of Rachel. She will be deeply missed by her siblings Dena (Hector), Bernie, John, Cecil and Jeanette (Donnie) and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Donald (Mary), Betty (Norman), Dorothy, Neil (Joyce), Kathy (Fred), Andy (Karen).  She is also mourned by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents Neil and Aggie MacLennan and her parents-in-law Thomas and Isabel Fraser.

It is difficult to encapsulate the life of a personality as large as Leona's. She will forever be remembered for her tremendous and never failing sense of humour, her positive outlook and inner strength. To find Leona in a crowd of people was to follow the laughter and joy. She had great respect for all things elegant, her motto always ....."presentation is everything". From her beautiful penmanship to her baking skills and her event planning she epitomized elegance. Leona was a highly successful consultant for Mary Kay for many years and dreamed of owning the pink Cadillac. She loved beautiful accessories and rarely left the house without at least one good piece of jewellery and some item with 'bling". She could be counted on to welcome neighbours home from vacations with signs, streamers and posters and maybe the odd piece of lingerie. Leona loved to give and was always more reticent to take.

Leona became a member of East Hawkesbury United Church shortly after her marriage to David and immediately became involved in every aspect of church life. She was treasurer of the UCW, member of the choir, pastoral relations and other committees as well as fastidious and loving caretaker for many years.  She was a member of the Pastoral Care team at Glengarry Memorial Hospital and Ladies President of the Alexandria Curling Club. She was secretary for the Quigley Highlanders Pipes and Drums and could be counted on to provide thorough and entertaining minutes. Her step dancing talents were inherited from her mother along with her sisters Dena and Jeanette and their many performances are legendary.

Leona was a wonderful wife to David spending 53 years of marriage blessed by a deep and abiding love and an abundance of romance and humour. She was intensely proud of Rodney, Janet and Rachel and celebrated all their accomplishments. She will always be remembered for her lifelong love affair with her beloved Cape Breton home but her Ontario family and friends will always be grateful for the opportunity of knowing and loving the special and beautiful soul that was Leona Fraser.

A funeral service will be held at East Hawkesbury United Church, 832 County Rd 18, Ste-Anne de Prescott, ON K0B 1M0 on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 am.

Reception to follow at Centre D'Action Ste-Anne, 7888 Arthur Lavigne St., Ste-Anne de Prescott, ON K0B 1M0.

For those who wish, donations to East Hawkesbury United Church and the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Offrir vos condoléances
